The Ripoulin + R. Crumb
OX
OX uses mainly painting to create his
images .The material often comes from
visuals used in the medias .This commercial imagery deturnded
is sometimes recycled in a pseudo promotional circuit such as
advertizing billboards .
Nina Childress
Frontier black and white

Frontier black and white is made from a small piece of a realistic
painting treated with Photoshop. It is about the influence of
digital treatment on the image, and here about the pixellized
line by default. For Nina Childress, abtraction represents another
possibility to work - through painting - at questions such as
visual perception and style notion.

R. Crumb
My Troubles with Women
The collection of comic strips by noted cartoonist R. Crumb
My
Troubles with Women was first published by Knockabout
in the UK and sold widely in high street bookshops for several
years. When our printing ran out we made a co-oedtion with Last
Gasp in the US and imported some of those copies. An overzealous
HM Customs Officer seized them at Heathrow Airport because of
2 sexually explicit panels out of some 600 in the book. Coincidentally
and by way of contrast, on the same day the seizure in England
was made, we were displaying the book at the huge French Comic
Fair in Angouleme and shaking hands with the French Minister of
Culture. Customs insisted on taking us to court a year later where
we won the case and now possess a nice letter from HM Customs
stating which sexual acts we can show in comics.
